Fred Breitling- HOF

2024
Player Information

Fred broke into the league back in 1998 with the Orioles.  I’d say he made a pretty good first impression with 12 HR, 53 hits and a .525 batting average. Not a bad way to endear himself to his new teammates….

Two years later after moving on to the Astros, Fred crushed a league record 14 HR that season, he accomplished that in just 87 at bats.

Three years later he hit a career best .632, that was the last of a 6-year span in which he hit at least .494 or better in every single season.

A former teammate once said   ”Those Astros teams were always so tough, they were either first or second in the final standings 7 times in an 8 year span, they had so many guys in that lineup that could beat you, but Fred was definitely the one guy you feared most"

Fred had more career homeruns than he had strikeouts…..He hit 81 homeruns in his CABL career, a record that still stands today.  Not only did he give you unmatched power, he was a high batting average guy and was very hard to strike out.. In fact He only struck out 77 times over his career. Meaning that you were more likely to see a HR from him than a strikeout!

Over the course of 17 seasons Fred racked up a league record    81 HR, 578 hits, along with 390 RBI. His career batting average of .470 is also the league’s  all-time record….

Unquestionably the greatest offensive player ever to lace 'em up in the CABL, it is our privilege and honor to welcome Fred Breitling as the 2024 inductee to the CABL Hall of Fame.
