Pete Sherman - HOF
Plaque Player Picture Induction Year

Player Information

The Astros teams of the late 1990s and early 2000s were filled with some of the greatest players the league has ever seen. One player stood out above all, carving out a Hall of Fame career not only as a pitcher, but also as a hitter. Pete Sherman simultaneously had two Hall of Fame careers. A dominant left handed pitcher with a devastating forkball, he was the guy who wanted the ball in big games. A former Astros teammate once said "If there was an important game that we really needed, Pete was one of a few pitchers that I knew, if he got the ball, we were going to win!"

He had such an amazing command and presence on the mound. He racked up a 68-20 career pitching record, with a 2.63 career ERA, and 762 strikeouts. Remarkable numbers for any time frame, but when you consider a majority of that was done against guys swinging aluminum bats it makes it all that much more impressive! As part of a very good Astros batting order, he collected 409 hits between 1999-2018. He also compiled 21 HR and almost 300 RBI in that time frame. His 1999 Astros team still holds the league record for highest scoring team with an average over 12 per game.

We do not have any stat records prior to 1999, so keep in mind those aforementioned numbers do not include his first 4 years in the league. It is safe to say the career hit total is north of 500, the wins total near triple digits and the strikeouts somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000! A great ambassador for the league both on and off the field for nearly three decades, it is our privilege to induct the greatest dual threat player the league has ever seen into the CABL Hall of Fame inductee, from the Astros, #99 Pete Sherman!
